Dear dad

Dad,

You will never read this.
You will not know how my heart breaks thinking of you.
You will not know how I have grown up.
You will not know your grandchildren.
We named our son after you, but you will not know.

You are not here.
But my heart is full of love for you.
You are not here.
But I will love you always.
Your brave actions are in my mind.
Your caring heart imprinted on mine.

I never got to know you.
I do not remember you.
I looked a pictures and try very hard to keep them in my memory.
All I know is what people have told me about you.

You thought of others.
You saved lives.
You lost your own.
But you saved lives.

You may not be here, but you are always a hero in my eyes.

You didn’t see me marry.
Or walk me down the aisle
But that’s ok dad.
You are always in my heart.
You were kind
You were brave
You were courageous
I can’t wait for the day when I will see you again.

  1. How beautiful, Charlotte. I lost my dad later in life, but he never met my four youngest sons or saw me move to the mission field, and it is a loss I feel daily even as I am insanely grateful for the man he was and the time I had with him here. Prayers and consolation for your sweet heart.
