My story

So this has been a long time coming, I must admit.
I have been blogging for nigh on 2 years now and I have only discussed parts of my life in specific blog posts.

Today I have been inspired to write my story.
So you get to know all parts of me in one neat little package/post!

I guess we should start from the top then?!

Childhood –
I was born in Walsall in the West Midlands, the 2nd of 3 children. In 1990 when I was 5 years old my father was killed in a road traffic accident. We were coming back from my name house driving down the motorway – when my dad saw an accident occur so he stopped to assist the people out of their damaged vehicle. Unfortunately dad was knocked down and killed by a speeding car that failed to notice how close he was to the hard shoulder.
My mum was left with 3 children under 7.
Just over a year later we moved to wales where mum found love again and got married. They have been married 24 years and had 2 children together.

Anorexia –
At the age of 10 I developed anorexia. At my lowest I weighed 4 and half stone (63lb). I spent my time constantly exercising and not eating..when I did eat I would pick, throw the rest away and the go and use my skipping rope for an hour. I did end up in hospital – I think in the early 90’s people still didn’t know what to make of anorexia – they just thought it was simple to fix..just make them eat. But anorexia is a disease not easily fixed. I still suffer from parts of it to this day some 19 years later, but it never truly leaves you.

Self harm –
I have openly discussed my struggle with self harm on a number of occasions. During my teenage years I suffered at the end of bullies verbal abuse. Which made me feel much worse about myself than I already did. Everything that was used against me as forms of abuse – you name it my red hair, my curly hair, my singing, the fact that my medication made me gain weight like crazy.
People made me feel so bad about myself that I began to cut myself.. On my legs mostly where nobody could see..and I told no one about it either. Fast forward some 7 years and I started doing it more often, in fact it got so bad that my arms were covered.. Top to bottom.
Most recently during my struggle with PND I harmed myself and came very close to overdosing. But I have made a promise to my hubby that I will not do it again – and I have kept that promise so far – but it is a daily struggle.

But I am healing. Taking each day as a fresh page in my process.

I found my best friend and love of my life in 2005 and we married in 2007

In 2008 I began studying with Jehovah’s witnesses and became baptised in 2010.

In 2009 I fell pregnant and unfortunately suffered a miscarriage. It was devastating and a part of felt a failure.
When 2010 rolled around I discovered I was 10 weeks pregnant whilst we were across the ocean with friends in California.. Well you could have knocked me over with a feather!

On august 10th we welcomed our daughter, Bella Annina Cornes to the world – she is now 4…and a half.

After returning from another trip to California in 2012 we discovered I was expecting again! It must be that California air! On march 27th 2013 we welcomed Ariana Iris Cornes into the word – she has recently turned 2

In December 2013 we were surprised by a third pregnancy.. On 28th June 2014 we welcomed our son James Timothy Cornes into the world

That brings you to right now.
Where I am in a pretty good place mentally.
Also I am not expecting any kids at the moment either!

So that’s my story. Short but not always sweet.
But I am stronger today than I have ever been.

But what’s your story?
What made you who you are today?

  1. Charlotte, so glad I read your story. Thank you for sharing all you have been through! I used to hate my red hair too, but now I’m thankful for it! Your babies are precious! And I can relate to your passion for studying God’s Word, it is life changing
